XL-BYGG/A-TRÄ, Landskrona, Sweden

Project description

In May 2023, XL-BYGG/A-TRÄ in Landskrona suffered a fire and the large store had to be rebuilt from scratch.A year later, the company was able to open the doors to the store again, which is now lit up with lighting from SG Armaturen.

XL-BYGG/A-TRÄ is a company with a long history, starting out as a timber company at the end of the 19th century, and since 2009 it has been part of Scandinavia's largest builders' merchant chain.

In May last year, we got the phone call that nobody wants - that our shop was on fire. However, the emergency services were quickly on the scene and fortunately no one was hurt. After the initial shock had subsided, we began to work constructively and already after the weekend we were able to open a temporary store,’ says Helena Nilsson, CEO of XL-BYGG/A-TRÄ.

The 1500 square metre store was damaged by fire and smoke, had to be cleaned up and completely renovated. Prenad in Landskrona was commissioned to carry out all electrical and lighting installations in the newly renovated premises. Christian Persson, electrician at Prenad in Landskrona, explains the work:

‘When we started the project, the premises were just a shell. When it came to choosing lighting, we contacted SG Armaturen, who we often work with on various projects. They have good products and the salespeople give us good service. In this case, their office is just a few hundred metres from XL-BYGG/A-TRÄ, which made the process easier and faster when we had questions or wanted to try out different luminaires,’ says Christian Persson.

Lighting solution

Together with SG Armaturen's sales staff, Christian Persson first visited the shop to go through the conditions and requirements. ‘Naturally, we wanted the functionality required in a large shop, but we also wanted it to feel modern and look good,’ comments Helena Nilsson.

‘In addition to the store, we also needed lighting for the exhibition, office, dining room and conference areas. Both we and the people in charge at XL-BYGG/A-TRÄ liked the proposal. To see how it would look in the environment, we borrowed luminaires from SG, which we hung up to test the lighting on site,’ says Christian.

Once everyone was happy, Prenad ordered the lighting and started the installation work, which was then completed at the end of May. Among the various luminaires used are Aneto, Zip Tube Mini, Sense 320, Arena and Wave.
‘One luminaire that stands out a bit more and is bold in a shop environment is the round Sense 320, on a 3-phase track,’ says Jonas.

Both Prenad Landskrona and XL-BYGG/A-TRÄ are satisfied with the end result.
‘Everyone we've spoken to who has visited the store thinks it looks great and the lighting obviously adds to the overall impression. I would also like to emphasise the good cooperation with SG Armaturen, they are good at making suggestions and showing their products. The fact that they can also make lighting calculations and proposals in 3D is of course a great advantage for both us and the end customer,’ comments Christian.

‘We were very much involved in the choice of luminaire, but we received very good advice from SG and good installation from Prenad. So we are satisfied and thank everyone for the good co-operation,’ concludes Helena Nilsson.
