Karlavägen, Stockholm
Project description
Karlavägen is an old esplanade in Stockholm’s Östermalm urban district near the city centre and was named in 1866 as part of Albert Lindhagen’s new urban plan. The plan laid out Karlavägen as a new boulevard. The driving lanes are separated by a wide tree-lined pedestrian mall with a walkway in the middle. As part of a major refurbishment project, SG provided the lighting.
Lighting solution
Stockholm’s Traffic Administration Office wanted to extensively refurbish the park lighting along the boulevard.
The Office chose Ray D with a design cone in black textured lacquer, dimmed with night-time reductions at pre-programmed times. This aesthetic solution takes account of the area’s history while exploiting all the benefits of today’s LED technology and controls, which minimise energy use.
