In Hovås, just outside Gothenburg, attractive new owner-occupied apartments have emerged in recent years. Brf Hovåsängen consists of 16 unique apartments in three buildings in a seaside environment. In parallel, a new facility has also been built for Änggårdens Hospice nearby. Both projects were developed by AB Hovås Villastad and built by the Tornstaden construction company. The developers have chosen to use lighting from SG Armaturen throughout both properties. 

Hovås is situated by the seaside, yet conveniently close to central Gothenburg. Here, you can find century-old villas as well as modern homes. The area also includes Hovåsbadet, Hovås marina, Gothenburg Golf Club, and Hovås Kallbadhus with its restaurant and bathing facilities, including a sauna. The costal setting, views and convenient location ensure a high quality of life. AB Hovås Villastad has a long history of land development and operates the Hovås Kallbadhus bathing facilities and restaurant. 

“We obtained permission to build flats in the area and then began work on the project, a joint venture involving us and Tornstaden. The idea behind Brf Hovåsängen was to create carefree multi-storey homes with a villa feel, private patio or garden. It’s an opportunity for people to downsize while remaining in the same general area, living in a high-quality seaside flat,” Fredrik Davidson of AB Hovås Villastad explains. 

Lighting solution

Brf Hovåsängen 
Brf Hovåsängen consists of a total of 16 owner-occupied flats, ranging from 79 to 167 square metres, occupying three buildings. 

Brf Hovåsängen is designed with a focus on quality, robust materials and products from well-known brands. This is reflected consistently in everything from the windows, heating and kitchens to lighting. “We’ve used products by SG Lighting in several previous projects at our bathing facilities and have always been happy with them and the high quality of their products. That’s why we chose products from SG Armaturen for this project as well,” says Fredrik Davidson. 

A wide range, and stylish design 
HCT El Concept was responsible for the electrical design and installation as well as the lighting, and they contacted SG Armaturen early on to involve them. 

“We work a lot with SG Armaturen on various projects. They have good products, a wide range and stylish designs. They may not be the cheapest, but you get a lot for the money! Not only that, but they help by suggesting luminaires and assisting with design projects,” says Karl Törner, HCT El Concept. 

“I’ve previously assisted Hovås Villastad with lighting for projects including a pavilion at their bathhouse, and I have a good working relationship with HCT El Concept. In this case, I was asked to come up with proposals for all the lighting, both indoor and outdoor, and to prepare light calculations,” SG Lighting Regional Manager Magnus Aspling comments. 

The client had prepared documentation and had a designer create a system draft. With this as a starting point, SG Lighting was able to create a new design using the client’s input. The initial design was prepared early in 2022, with some revisions before the proposal was finalised. 

  

Änggårdens Hospice 
Änggårdens Hospice offers quality end-of-life care from a team of nurses and doctors. The facility has 11 rooms as well as communal and staff areas. The ground floor of the property is rented out, and there’s an independent gym for members. 

“We were also commissioned to develop lighting proposals for Änggårdens Hospice. It’s very inspiring to work with such diverse environments and different lighting requirements. From home environments and outdoor settings to healthcare facilities and gyms – being able to handle most projects, whatever the requirements and setting, shows our strengths and our breadth of lighting experience,” Magnus Aspling adds. 

Lighting with options 
Brf Hovåsängen is equipped with welcoming outdoor lighting, including lamp posts, bollards, and facade luminaires. The flats have three-phase rails, which provide great flexibility when it comes to lighting: residents can have everything from directional spotlights to pendant luminaires. This gives them great options for customisation and tailored lighting for their homes. Similarly, at Änggårdens Hospice, there are outdoor lights as well as indoor luminaires for general use and cosy lighting in the guest accommodation. The hospice staff are particularly pleased with the dimmability of the ceiling panels, which allows for good lighting day and night. All lighting can be controlled via buttons and an app. 

A sense of quality 
The projects are now completed. Änggårdens Hospice is fully operational, while residents are now moving in at Brf Hovåsängen. At Webster Body Therapy and Massage, where there’s a gym on the ground floor, the electrical and lighting installations are now completed. 

“The lighting really enhances the sense of quality in both properties, indoors and outdoors, and the response has been positive from guests, relatives and owner-occupiers alike. We’re very pleased with the project’s outcome and the collaboration with HCT El Concept and SG Lighting,” says Fredrik Davidson.
