SG Armaturen was established by businessman Sven Gunvaldsen in 1990. He was in the business of selling lamps, but decided to invest in his own production of lighting solutions. Gunvaldsen sold his lamp-selling business and embarked on what was to become a Norwegian industrial adventure.

At the start, the company had one employee and one product for sale. SG Armaturen has since evolved to become one of the largest luminaire manufacturers in the Nordic countries, with close to 700 employees in the Group. Innovation and growth are in the DNA of SG Armaturen. The company currently has 10,000 square metres of office and warehouse space in Lillesand, Norway, and has sales divisions in Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Benelux, France, Germany, Austria and the United Kingdom. SG Armaturen owns two factories: one in Odense, Denmark, and the other in Dongguan, China.
