First Stop Dekkcenteret Oslo
Project description
First Stop Dekkcenteret Oslo – the city's largest tyre hotel – wanted to create a better working environment for their employees by increasing the lighting conditions on their premises, while also changing luminaires from fluorescent to LED lamps. LED lighting offers high energy efficiency, a longer lifetime than traditional fluorescent lamps, and requires minimal maintenance. The LED lights also offer a better quality of light, which in turn provides a better working environment.
The production and import of fluorescent lamps and compact fluorescent lamps were prohibited in the EU/EEA from 1 September 2023. The ban on mercury-containing fluorescent lamps is an important environmental measure, and also represents a great opportunity in terms of cost savings and improvements to the working environment. Updating luminaires also provides an opportunity to optimise their placement, giving you light where you need it most.
Lighting solution
The tyre centre contacted Tandbergs Elektriske, which in turn contacted its lighting partner SG Armaturen. Together, they carried out a survey of the premises and established that using the energy-saving LED luminaire Arena Eco would be a good choice. Arena Eco is particularly suitable for warehouses and industrial premises and is easy to install with through wiring and terminal in both ends. The luminaire can be mounted either directly to the ceiling with screws, or by using mounting hooks on horizontal wiring.
With new luminaires, you can expect a cost saving of between 50 and 80 per cent.
After Tandbergs Elektriske installed the new luminaires, the tyre centre expects an annual saving to operating costs of more than NOK 85,000. The calculation is based on a kWh price of NOK 3 and includes the cost of replacing the lamps.
To further reduce energy consumption, motion sensors were installed in the different areas in the tyre centre. This resulted in a significant reduction in the duration of usage, which will in turn result in significant savings.
A number of lux measurements were taken during the initial survey. Measurements taken after the installation showed that the lighting upgrade resulted in a significant increase to light levels in the tyre centre. In one of the storage areas, it increased from 21 lux to 483 lux.
'We are very pleased with the advice we received from SG Armaturen during the project. The results are outstanding. We not only have much better lighting conditions but have made huge savings to operating costs. The project was completed quickly and easily,’ says Frank Robert Mogen, general manager of First Stop Dekkcenteret Oslo
